John Turner is Chairman of Hillcrest Capital Partners. In 2001, after 40 years in the life insurance industry, John retired as Vice Chairman for ING Americas and a member of ING’s Executive Committee for the Americas. Prior to the acquisition of ReliaStar Financial Corp., a Fortune 500 NYSE listed financial services company, by ING Group, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ReliaStar from 1992 to 2000. In 1996, John was named Insurance Industry CEO of the Year by the Wall Street Transcript.
Throughout his insurance career and continuing to the present, John has been actively involved in numerous organizations, including corporate boards (CNO Financial Group, M.A. Mortenson, Hormel Foods Corporation. ShopKo Stores, Inc.), not-for-profit boards (Allina Hospitals & Clinics, Hamline University, United Way, Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. Turner Family Foundation), industry associations (American Council of Life Insurance, Insurance Federation of Minnesota) and in the community (Past President of The Minikahda Club, Past President of The Minneapolis Club, Past President of the Minnesota Golf Association).
John brings to Hillcrest and its portfolio companies the same focus and involvement he demonstrated during his industry career. He currently serves as a Board Member of Bedford Technology, LLC and formerly served as a Board Member of Forsythe Appraisals, LLC, E-Z Gard Industries, Inc. (dba Shock Doctor), and Premier Restaurant Equipment Company, LLC. .John has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Amherst College. In addition, he did graduate work at the University of Minnesota and attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
